The Early Primary SCITT is a one-year, full-time, school-based route to qualification as a primary teacher, preparing teachers to teach children

aged 3 to 8.


On completion you will be awarded Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and either a Postgraduate Certificate in Education or a Professional Graduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) by Plymouth University.


You will spend 75% of the year in schools and 25% in centre based training. This is 3 dedicated teaching practices totalling 17 weeks and centre based-training including hub days based in 4 of our partnership school, a 3 day residential and research based assignments. Trainees are based in 1 partnership school or Autumn and Summer terms and a 2nd of the Spring term. You get experience of teaching EYFS and KS1.


You will spend 25% of the year in centre based training. This includes Communication Language and Literacy, Maths, Understanding the World, Child Development, Diversity and Inclusion. Also the Early Years Outcomes and National Curriculum Foundation subjects of EAD (Art, Design and Music), Physical Development and PE. The Hub Days allow you to see PSED, play, planning for environments and behaviour management in practice. The research based assignments enable you to related theory to practice.
